flasher battery  after having the batteries on both my fl8  and fl20  die within the last three days, i’ve decided that after 4 or five years i should have replaced both batteries.   for about $20 each it can save a lot of on the ice frustration.   i was told at vexilar that a warm battery might read fine when its at home but if its getting weak it can die quickly when on the ice??

if you are on year 4, you are on borrowed time.  replace that thing before it dies at 9 am on a good bite.

they will read fine in a warm environment without any “load” on them, but will run down very quickly in the real world.

we had an issue yesterday with the sonar.  it was the first time we switched from using the regular fish finder mode to using the flasher.  normally it would eek out about 4 hours – yesterday we were dead in less than one.  not sure if the flasher function drains the battery faster, if the battery is shot or we had one of those id-10-t errors…

if your flasher battery is 12 volts, you can replace it with any 12 volt battery. the amp-hours will determine how long you can go on a charge. you could even use a car battery if you wanted.

not true??    put a brand new 12 volt , from walmart, on my fl8.   it got too weak after only two hours at 20 degrees .   the battery was supposed to be compatible with any vexilar?   called vexilar and described my new battery and they told me that it wasn’t meant to handle ice fishing weather.   brought it back to walmart and they exchanged it for what they referred to as a extreme weather battery.  tried it this morning at -5 degrees and it was fine until after 11:00 when i was too frozen??

the replacement battery cost $10 more but they didn’t charge me the extra fee??

matt flasher battery  tempting but most expensive flasher replacement battery i can find  is $40 plus shipping.   i will wait to hear how long your  new battery works in really cold weather?   i have two lithium 18 volt batteries for my auger drill but they came as a package with my 18 volt dewalt drill?   so far they haven’t failed me?

sounds like just a bad battery. i am surprised that a battery designed for a finder would lose performance that quickly in 20 degree weather… lame.
